Severe thunderstorms crossed South Central Illinois Sunday night spawning tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings.
A National Weather Service spotter reported a tornado near the Walnut Hill Road just southeast of Centralia, but no damage from the storm was reported in the Centralia area or Marion County.
Tornado warnings were also issued for parts of Clinton, Washington and Jefferson Counties along with a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of northern Marion and eastern Clinton County.
Statewide the storms brought down a number of trees and power lines resulting in Ameren Illinois opening an Emergency Operating Center to coordinate recovery from the storm. The number of customers without power across Illinois as of seven Monday morning was down to 1,968.
The Salem Water Plant recorded 1.29 inches of rain from the storm and the Centralia Water Treatment Plant 1.53 inches. So far no gates are open at Raccoon Lake. The Salem Water plant also recorded five-one-hundredths of an inch of rain from the light rain and drizzle on Saturday. Centralia had one-tenth of an inch of rain on Saturday.
