Republicans want to limit Governor’s Executive Orders

House Republicans are pushing legislation to limit the Governor’s use of executive orders.

The GOP says after 30 days into a statewide emergency, lawmakers should have a say in any decision making.

Legislation supported by Representative Norine Hammond of Macomb does just that, making sure the Governor doesn’t have unilateral power.

“The Governor has issued a total of 91 executive orders since 2020 and 2021.  Everything from the initial stay at home to regional mitigation, mask and vaccination mandates.”

Governor JB Pritzker has said that lawmakers could have taken up Covid legislation at any time, but Republicans say Democratic leaders never pursued that option.
