Number of COVID-19 declines 35-percent in past week in Marion County; Washington County falls to substantial level

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Marion County for the week ending Friday fell to 71, down 35-percent from the prior week and continuing a drop that has been underway the past month. The county’s positivity rate has fallen to 191 per 100,000, still well above the 100 per 100,000 level to be listed in the high category for number of cases. Marion County had five new hospital admissions for the the week.

Washington County became the first area county to drop to the substantial case level as they reported less than ten new COVID-19 cases over the past week.

Jefferson County saw 119 new cases and 22 new hospital admissions for the week. The number of new cases was down 11-percent. The positivity rate is at 316 people per 100,000.

The CDC is reporting 78 new cases in Clinton County last week, a drop of 33-percent. The positivity rate is at 208 per 100,000. There was one new hospital admission.

Fayette County had 52 new cases, a drop of 29-percent from the prior week. There were two new hospitalizations. The positivity rate is at 244 per 100,000.

Clay County reported 36 new cases ending Friday, a 38-percent drop.  There were 13 new hospitalizations. The positivity rate is 273 per 100,000. Wayne County  as the only area county to have an increase in cases. The 76 cases were a 10-percent increase. There were five new hospitalizations.

The positivity rate is 469 per 100,000. Two counties in the state have move to the moderate category, the third highest level. They are Gallatin County in the southeast part of the state and Brown County in north central Illinois.
