The Salem Wildcats saw their chance to get playoff eligible shot down as they fell on the road at Freeburg 35-6. Salem’s lone score came on a Caleb Smith block punt, scoop and score late in the 3rd quarter. Salem was outgained on offense 445 to -7 as the Cats got their only first down of the game on their final drive late in the game. Freeburg Senior Landon Funderberg rushed 7 times for 21 yards and 2 touchdowns and through the air he went 11-of-20 for 119 yards a touchdown and interception. Connor Tennyson picked Funderberg early in the 2nd half. The Wildcats have dropped 3 straight after starting the season at 4-1 and will get one more shot to get playoff eligible next week when they travel to old Apollo rival Charleston. The Trojans dropped their game to Mt Zion 32-7.
Breese Central clinched sole possession of the Cahokia-Mississippi Division title with their 20-0 win over Columbia. Chester won the Illinois Division with a 21-0 win over Red Bud. Also in the Cahokia, Dupo 22-14 over Sparta and Wood River shutout Roxana 34-0.
