A 38-year-old Salem man has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery following an incident at the South Farm Fresh Store in Centralia on Saturday.
Jerid Walker of Indiana Street is accused of entering the store implying he had a gun and demanding the cashier empty the cash register. He left the store without getting any money and was arrested following a two block chase by Centralia Police.
Bond for Walker was set at $25,000 on the new charge. Walker had been released a day earlier on $100,000 personal recognizance bond on pending charges following an armed robbery and chase that followed a hold up at Biggies on Route 161 East in June. No action was taken on the recognizance bond during Walker’s first appearance on the new charge.
Walker had the public defender appointed to represent him. If released on bond he was ordered to have no contact with the victim, victim’s residence, or the Farm Fresh Store.
State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth had requested Walker’s released on recognizance bond to avoid problems with the speedy trial rule after delaying his jury trial. Hudspeth said the trial delay was the result of his office not yet having DNA evidence back from the lab.
