Salem Community High School’s $10.4-million building improvement project for next summer became a little larger at a special school board meeting Wednesday night.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says under the $100,000 school maintenance grant two more areas of the school will get new lighting.
“It’s really an addition to the lighting project we are already doing next summer. But in addition to that adding the cafeteria and vocational buildings all will easily cover the $50,000 part. As a matter of fact the numbers on the lighting portion of the grant is somewhere near $1.1 because we are already changing out all the light fixtures while we are in the ceiling changing the HVAC system this summer.”
This is the fourth year for the school maintenance matching grant that provides $50,000 in state funding to match $50,000 in school funding.
The original project approved earlier includes new lighting and windows in the main portion of the school along with replacement of the heating and air conditioning system. Bonds have been issued to cover the cost of the work.
Meanwhile, Detering reports everything is now completed on the building projects completed this summer. The last remaining item, carpeting for the band and choir room, has now been installed. The renovation of the girl’s locker room, resurfacing of the track, and new football field lighting were all completed
earlier.
