By Bruce Kropp Oct 4, 2021 | 3:20 PM

The City of Salem Public Works Department has set the week of Monday, October 11th, for City-Wide Clean-Up.

The City’s residential trash hauler will pick up an amount equal to one pickup truckload of normal household items that are set at the curb on your normal trash day during that week ONLY.  Each residential customer will be allowed only one pick-up during this week.  Acceptable items include white goods (stove, hot water heater, air conditioner) couches, bedding, and other furniture.  A total limit of 4(four) large items will be picked up at a location.  Large items include couches, mattresses, or box springs, etc.

Items that CANNOT be picked up include:

  • Insulation
  • Paint or Chemical cans
  • Any Asbestos product
  • Electronics (TV, VCR, stereo, or computer equipment)
  • Construction or remodel debris of any sort (shingles, toilets, sinks, lumber, carpet etc.)
  • Car parts, including tires, batteries, auto body parts etc.

Items of questionable or unknown content will be left.  Absolutely no items can be taken which were not from a source within the City Limits.

Due to the excessive workload during this cleanup residents are asked not to park in front of pickup areas.  Items that are not easily accessible will be left.   Any item not picked up due to non-compliance with the above rules will become the responsibility of the property owner /tenant.  Alternative sources of pickup can be found via an internet search for trash haulers near Salem, Illinois.
