Bond has been set at $25,000 for a 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man who has been formally charged in Marion County Court with felony aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

Jonathan Wallace of South 13th Street was arrested following a brief foot chase after his car ran off the Webb Road into the roadside ditch several miles south of Walnut Hill and became disabled.

Police had initially tried to stop Wallace at McCord and Pleasant.   He took off at a high rate of speed on McCord and then went South on Airport Road eventually winding up on Webb Road.

The aggravated fleeing and eluding charge claims Wallace was attempting to get away from police at more than 21 miles an hour over the speed limit.  Because of a past conviction, Wallace is eligible for an extended sentence due to a prior Jefferson County felony conviction.   The public defender was appointed to represent him.  A preliminary hearing is set for October 28th.

He could also face a charge of resisting arrest in Jefferson County for allegedly running on foot.

The chase began just after eight Saturday night.
