The Salem Lady Wildcats golf team traveled to Mt Vernon Thursday to compete in their 2021-22 Class 1A regional against a field of 11 other teams at the Green Hills Country Club.
Each regional competition across the state advances the top 3 teams and the top 10 individuals that are not from a winning team. The top 3 winning teams from Mt Vernon were Mt Carmel 1st, Salem 2nd, and Nashville 3rd. The top ten individuals not from one of the 3 winning teams were: Alyssa Dawson, Benton, Caroline Glover, Richland County, Bre Schandl, Pinckneyville, Macy Heil, Carmi-White County, Olivia Drew, Benton, Treya Fassett, Waltonville, Aubrey Lemmon, Pinckneyville, Taylor Runyon, Richland County, Kylie Harvey, Pinckneyville, and Madison Lynch, Pinckneyville.
The overall Medalist for the competition was Lillian Gottman of Mt Carmel who shot an even par 71 round. Two Salem golfers Kenzie Anderson and Taylor Ice were in the top 10 overall individuals claiming the 9th and 10th places, respectively.
The Salem team consisting of Kenzie Anderson, Taylor Ice, Alyssa Paul, Makinzie Mann, Maya Susmena, and Jaryn Haarmann, ended up placing 2nd with a team score of 382 and will advance to the sectional competition at Acorn Golf Links in Waterloo on Monday, October 4th. This is the first Lady Wildcat golf team to advance to the sectionals in a number of years.
