Salem schedules to start leaf collection service on October 25th

By WJBD Staff Sep 30, 2021 | 11:52 AM

The City of Salem will begin leaf collection service on Monday, October 25th, weather permitting. The leaf vacuuming is scheduled to continue through mid-December.

The program provides residents with an alternate way to dispose of their leaves.  Residents who do not mulch or bag their leaves may rake leaves in rows next to the curb in front of their residence.  City crews will collect loose leaves from the curbside.

Do not rake leaves into drainage areas, sewer inlets, ditches or in front of fire hydrants.  Do not rake twigs, branches, sticks, rocks, bottles or garden debris with the leaves; such items cause the equipment to breakdown and will be left for the resident to sort before collection.  Any items not picked up due to non-compliance with the above rules will become the responsibility of the property owner /tenant.  Avoid parking your car in front of a leaf pile.

The Public Works Department makes every effort to complete one cycle through town each week on regular trash collection days.

Due to the volume of leaves being collected, weather uncertainties, and holidays, it is impossible for the City to guarantee leaf collection on a specific day.

Anytime during the year, residents can place their leaves in a biodegradable yard waste bag for pickup on their normal yard waste collection day.
