Marion County Health Department reports 36 new COVID-19 cases Saturday-Tuesday

The Marion County Health Department is reporting 36 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths for the four day period between Saturday and Tuesday.

Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says 26 of the new cases are considered community spread and the other 10 from household or close contacts. Five of those testing positive were fully vaccinated.

There are now 611 active cases in Marion County including 33 in the hospital. Of those in the hospital, four are on ventilators. They range in age from two in their 80s, three in their 70s, 11 in their 60s, 10 in their 50s, five in their 40s and two in their 30s.

Of the new cases, one is a long term care resident, 16 are school age and six are four years or younger.

The CDC COVID-19 tracker for last week showed Marion County with a total of 127 cases for the week, down 38-percent from the prior week. The county’s positivity rate dropped to 341 per 100,000 people, still more than three times the minimum to drop from the high category to substantial.

There were 27 new admissions last week. Fayette County was the only area county to show an increase in cases.

They had 157 cases, a 50-percent increase. The county also reported three additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Jefferson County saw a 26-percent drop in cases last week to 135. Clinton County had a 19-percent decline with 73 new cases. Washington County had a 55-percent decline with new cases dropping to 17. Neither Clinton or Washington County had a new hospitalization. Clay County had 89-new cases, a drop of 17-percent. Wayne County had 81 new cases, down 17 percent.

All of Illinois remains in the high level for COVID-19.
