The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports four people were injured in a three vehicle crash on Route 161 east of Racetrack Road east of Centralia Tuesday night.

Sheriff’s Deputies say the crash occurred when 41-year-old Shannon Pinnell of Chipwood Lane in Centralia was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. An oncoming eastbound SUV driven by 49-year-old Kimberly Henke of Jefferson Street in Kinmundy swerved to avoid hitting Pinnell head-on and the rear
passenger side of Henke’s SUV struck the Pinnell car. An SUV traveling behind Henke then hit the Pinnell car head on. It was driven by 63-year-old Elena Pena of the Route 161 Extension in Iuka.

Pinnell and two three-year-old juvenile girls in her vehicle along with Pena were all transported by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Henke refused medical treatment.

The Centralia Fire Protection District and Lifestar, Sandoval, and Abbott Ambulance all assisted those injured in the crash. Route 161 was closed for about an hour during the cleanup. The crash occurred just before five Tuesday evening.
