Two Salem men have been arrested on federal drug warrants on Tuesday, while two others were picked up on other charges.
37-year-old Michael Lyday Junior of Charleston Road and 66-year-old David Purcell of South Washington Street were both arrested by the South Eastern Illinois Drug Task Force following multiple drug investigations. The offenses included Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Operation of a Drug Involved Premises.
Lyday was apprehended near North Broadway in Salem while Purcell was taken into custody in the area of South Vincent Street in Salem. They are both being held in the Marion County Jail pending a first appearance in federal court. The exact charges in the warrant have not been released.
The Drug Task Force and Salem Police also executed a narcotics search warrant in the area of Purcell’s home Tuesday morning. A man hiding in the rafters of the garage of the home, 38-year-old Matthew Maciejowski who said he was homeless, allegedly refused to come down. He was given a notice to appear for resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds had no immediate information on if the search warrant turned up any drugs.
39-year-old Serena Clark, who said she was homeless, was arrested on a Clinton County failure to appear warrant in a pending misdemeanor retail theft case when she was taken into custody at the same time Lyday was arrested. The bond on the warrant is set at $10,000.
The South Eastern Illinois Drug Task Force is comprised of the Illinois State Police, the Salem Police Department, the Flora Police Department, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, and the Robinson Police Department.
