Seven Marion County area veterans will spend the day in Washington DC on Tuesday during an Honor Flight.
They will see the various monuments dedicated to those who served in World War II, Korean, and Vietnam Wars as well as the changing of the guard at the Arlington National Cemetery. The Honor Flight will take a total of 87 veterans each with a companion from the Marion airport via chartered plane to Washington DC for the day and a return celebration Tuesday night.
Korean War Veteran Frank Richards of Salem is one of those on the flight which he notes was delayed a year due to COVID-19.
“We leave at 4:15 to 4:30 on Tuesday morning and will go out there and be there all day and be back in Marion sometime between 8:30-9pm they say. Supposed to have a celebration and quite a welcoming back so it should be a very fun, long and stressful day and tiresome but we are all looking forward to it but feel blessed and thankful we can go. It’s quite an honor for us.”
In addition to Richards, Marion County area veterans on the flight include Ronnie Robert Donoho of Salem, and Jim Beasley, Roger Bowie, Eugene Clark, Ralph Dooley and Bill Murray of the Centralia area.
