Centralia Police say a 20-year-old Centralia man was shot twice while walking on Lincoln Street in front of the Marion County Housing Authority parking lot late Thursday afternoon.

Chief Greg Dodson says Dalshaun Mitchell of the 1200 block of North Maple was struck by gunshots to the ankle and upper leg.    He reports they were among approximately eight shots fired at Mitchell from the occupants of a blue Chrysler 200 that was traveling northbound on Lincoln Street.  The vehicle then sped from the area.

Mitchell told police he had no information on who may have shot him or why.

He was initially taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and later transferred to St. Louis in stable condition in order to receive treatment for his injuries.

Dodson says the incident was captured on surveillance video and from the video it was clear that this was not a random act and Mitchell had been intentionally targeted.

Wamac and Central City Police assisted Centralia Police on the scene and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Techs later arrived.    The Centralia City Fire Department and Lifestar Ambulance both assisted the victim of the shooting.

Centralia Police received multiple calls about the shooting incident at 4:14 Thursday afternoon.
