The Salem City Council has approved a contract with Gonzalez Company to move planning for the Salem Soccer Complex on West Main and Selmaville Road forward. City Manager Rex Barbee says the contract includes survey and site plan development. He reports there is no timetable right now to complete the project.
“It is really still up in the air – the action that the council took tonight was to get some preliminary work done. That particular field has not been adequately studied for drainage: we want to make sure that we don’t have any issues and that’s part of the reason for doing the topographical scope and then… Working with the Department of Natural Resources to make sure that the water draining just not adversely effecting any of the surrounding property so that’s part of what’s being targeted with the agreements for work by Gonzalez Companies.”
Barbee says they are hoping to use city employees to build the fields and accomplish a lot of drainage issues. He is still hoping to plant some grass seed this fall, but adds the city has a limited number of people and different projects could come up that could make that timeline difficult.
