Nine new COVID-19 deaths in Marion and Jefferson Counties

The Marion County Health Department is reporting six new COVID-19 related deaths.  Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says 91 new cases were recorded between Saturday and Wednesday.

The health department reports one of the six deaths was fully vaccinated and the other five were not vaccinated.   The female in her 60s was a long-term care resident.  The five other deaths include a male in his 80s and a male in his 60s who were both in the hospital on ventilators.   The other three deaths were a male in his 50s, and both a male and female in the 70s.    There have now been 145 deaths in Marion County since the pandemic began.

There are currently 29 cases in the hospital.  Four of those are on ventilators.  Two are in their 80s, two are in their 70s, ten cases are in their 60s, ten cases are in their 50s, three cases are in their 40s and two cases are in their 30s.

Of the 91 new cases, 41 were school age and six are four years old and younger.  None were long-term care residents.  The health department considers 53 of the cases as community spread and 38 are household or close contacts.   None were long-term care residents.  There are currently 650 active cases in the county.   The number of positive cases in Marion County since the pandemic began has reached 6,138.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting three new deaths since Saturday and 90 new cases. The deaths were males in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who had been hospitalized and not vaccinated.  State officials say Jefferson County has had 132 COVID-19 related deaths.

Clinton County reported two new COVID-19 related deaths in their weekly report for last week.  They were a man in his 50s and a man in his 60s.  The deaths bring the total in Clinton County since the pandemic began to 98.

Meanwhile, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon released their weekly snapshot of COVID-19 patients for the past week.  There were 33 patients admitted.   30 were unvaccinated.  10 patients are currently on ventilators, all were not vaccinated.  12 patients are in the ICU/Critical Care, with only one of those being vaccinated.
