The Salem Wildcats fell just short in Cahokia soccer play as they fell to visiting Wesclin in Penalty Kicks.
Salem took an early first half lead when Caden Harris scored to put Salem up 1-0 at halftime. Wesclin would score the next 2 goals, but Salem would answer with the tying goal late off the foot of Ethan Crouse.
In extra time, it looked as though Salem earned a penalty kick as junior Hayden Irvin was taken out on a breakaway in the box with a shoulder tackle, but none of the 3 officials called it and the game continued into PK’s where Wesclin was able to pull it out 4-2.
Salem falls to 6-6 overall while Wesclin improves to 7-1. Salem returns to action at home tomorrow when they host Harrisburg.
