It took two votes, but the Marion County Board Monday night approved a new Class A liquor license for the old Medlin Store at Route 161 and Medlin Road.

Brian West and Patrick Watwood sought the license to renovate and open the former store into a video gaming facility that would also sell package liquor and serve by the drink.

The initial vote was a 6-6 tie, but after Board Chair Debbie Smith told fellow board members this was revenue to the county and allowed operation of another
business in the county two members switched their vote.

Dr. Creighton Engel and Angie Heistand from no to yes votes and allowed the new license to be approved by an 8-4 vote.

The board had received a letter opposing the liquor license from Raccoon Grade School which is just about a mile away.
