Marion County Health Department reports five new COVID-19 related deaths

The Marion County Health Department is reporting five new COVID-19 related deaths over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday of this week.   The deaths bring the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 136.    In addition to the five deaths, there have been 33 new cases reported over the weekend.    There are now 24 in the hospital.  Three are on ventilators and two are long-term care residents.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says two of the deaths were long-term care residents.  One was a female in her 80s who was fully vaccinated.  The other was also a female in her 80s who was not fully vaccinated.   The other deaths were a female in her 90s who was not vaccinated, a female in her 90s who was not vaccinated, and a female in her 90s who was fully vaccinated.

Of the 33 new cases, 14 were school age, three are four years and younger, and one was female in her 70s.   None were long-term care residents.   18 of the cases are considered community spread and 15 are household/close contacts.   Three of the new cases had been fully vaccinated.

There are now 526 active cases, with 502 on home isolation in addition to the 24 who are hospitalized.
