Bond has been set at $75,000 for a 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man who was formally charged in Jefferson County Court at Mt. Vernon on Wednesday with possession of between 100 and 400 grams of heroin.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies say the drugs were allegedly found in a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Xavier Wesley after it crashed in the area of East Illinois Highway 15 west of Dutch Lane.

Wesley was taken by Litton Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Further investigation at the crash site revealed Wesley was allegedly in possession of illegal drugs.

Upon release from the hospital, Wesley was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
