Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page is asking the public’s help for information on a shooting in the area of 17th and Perkins early Tuesday night.

Page says a 17-year-old juvenile male was taken to the hospital for treatment of a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The juvenile was dropped off outside Litton’s Ambulance Service.   City surveillance cameras were able to track the vehicle back to a residence on the south side of Mt. Vernon where officers and a detective responded for further investigation.

Page says it is not clear if those in the vehicle were involved in the actual shooting.   He says there was no video of the shooting itself so it is not clear who was involved and if the shooting was intentional or accidental.

Up to now, he reports the victim and potential witnesses have provided limited cooperation.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Mt Vernon Police Department at 242-2131 or Jefferson County Crimestoppers at 242-8477.
