Two people are in custody following a traffic stop by Mt. Vernon Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies in the Waltonville area.  Drugs and a dozen firearms, including one stolen from Marion County, were recovered.

33-year-old Daniel Harriss of Pinckneyville was taken into custody for alleged possession of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a defaced firearm.

A passenger, 30-year-old Brittany Sloan of Coulterville, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance.

Mt. Vernon Police say during the traffic stop, the stolen handgun from Marion County, along with illegal drugs were visible.  A search allegedly turned up methamphetamine, drug equipment, controlled substance, and 12 firearms.

One of the other firearms, an AR15 rifle, had the serial numbers scratched off.  Two other firearms were identified as stolen from Clinton County, Missouri.

Both Harriss and Sloan were taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center until formal charges are filed and bond is set.
