Ameren Illinois officials say a tree trimming operation in Kinmundy late Tuesday morning turned into a repair project when a tree was found fallen into a main three-phase power line that runs from Kinmundy to Alma.
The planned outage that followed left about 295 customers in Alma without electricity for about an hour while the fallen tree was removed from the power line.
Ameren officials say if the problem had not been discovered, the fallen tree would have eventually brought down the line resulting in a much longer outage.
