The Salem Wildcats opened up post season baseball play with an 8-3 victory over the Lawrenceville Indians in 2a play. Hunter Daniels drove in 3, Blane Phillips went 2-3 with 2 RBI. Salem also got RBI from Quentin Purcell and Isaak Williams. Rolen Adams added a double. Griffin Day was the complete game winner going all 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs with 6 strikeouts. Salem will play at top-seed Teutopolis Thursday under the lights starting at 7:30 in the Regional Semifinal.
Also yesterday in 2a play, Althoff 12-2 over Marquette, Marshall 10-0 over Georgetown, Murphysboro beat Sparta 9-3, New Berlin 2-0 over Piasa, Red Bud beat Chester 7-2, Carlyle nipped Wesclin 2-1.
In 1a regional quarterfinal, Beecher shutout Ramsey 10-0, Red Hill beat Cisne by forfeit, Mulberry Grove upset Christ Our Rock 9-6, Marissa over Webber 12-5, Windsor/Stew Stras over Arcola 16-1. This afternoon Wayne City travels to play Elverado at Steeleville.
