Salem Franklin Park Middle School honored several of its students with special awards during Thursday night’s eighth grade graduation. A total of 103 received their diplomas.
Student Speaker Ella Douglas recalled the friendliness of the Franklin Park staff in enhancing her experience.
“As a class we have overcame what most would call impossible difficulties. From remote learning, mask wearing and all other things that came with burden of the pandemic. A loss of a special student to all and all the general struggles of the school. We can finally say we did it, because of the unique individuals here.”
Franklin Park Principal Tyler Lux told the students he was proud of their achievements, but is most proud of the positive character that they choose to live with.
“Prior to the start of the year, you were all excited to be leaders at the school as 8th graders. But who knew your final year of middle school would be in the middle of the pandemic. You overcame starting of the school year late, wearing masks in school, remote learning, quarantining and many other obstacles. Relentless was our theme this year. This class has embodied that. Your resilience has been amazing and I know you will continue to set and achieve your goals.”
Lux handed out a number of special awards. They included the Outstanding Scholar Award to Kylie Engel and Noah Nix for earning a 4.0 grade point average their 8th grade year. Engel was also honored with the Franklin Park Principal’s award for outstanding scholarship and character.
The Beta Club Student of the Year Awards for leadership, honesty, respect, responsibility and regard for others were presented to Olivia Fehrenbacher and Steven McIntosh.
The Don Armstrong Student Council Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership, responsibility, character, integrity and the willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty in serving others was presented to Cole Casburn.
The Jim Burns Leadership for the school and Region was presented to Noah Nix.
