Franklin Park Eight Grade students got their award Wednesday for soaring over the canned food drive goal. Students were selected in a drawing to dump buckets of slim over the heads of Principal Tyler Lux, Assistant Principal Alex Koebele, and School Resource Officer Ryan Meador.
Lux says the eighth-grade class reached all their goals including the sliming in helping to raise $4,500 for the Salem Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
“Feels great because the kids met their goal so happy to do it of course. It is sticky and kind of heavy of course, but it’s worth it!”
School Resource Officer Ryan Meador, who was drenched in a very sticky yellow slime, said he figured he’d end up being involved in activities as part of his job, but sliming was not one of them.
“It’s a little cold out here with the wind but other than that it feels refreshing. Big congratulations for raising that much money. I’m really proud of the kids. Now I get to get rinsed off and back in uniform.”
The students were able to make the slime as part of their final day of school for eighth graders under the direction of Science Teacher Cara Allison.
“The slime is a playoff of the Nickelodeon slime from the old show Double Dare. So it’s flour, jello, water, and baby shampoo. We made it this afternoon so all the groups had group leaders and they all followed the recipe and made it themselves and figured out the perfect consistency to dump it.”
And Allison says the students all strived to make the slime as sticky as possible. She notes they make slime every year, but this is the first time
they have been able to dump it on people.
The Franklin Park canned food drive had to be modified this year due to COVID-19 restrictions and money was collected instead of cans of food.
The goal of $2,500 was surpassed by $2,000.
