The Salem 12u saw a solid Saturday of games at the Okawville Tournament end with a close 5-1 loss to Aviston in the 3rd place game. Salem could only muster 3 hits in the game, singles from Payton Gullion, Evan Barnes and Keytin Grawe. On the mound, Aden Rostance worked 3 innings striking out 5 but didn’t get much help defensively behind h im in the 3rd inning as Salem allowed all 5 runs in the frame. Payton Gullion worked the final 2 innings of no-hit ball striking out 2.
Gullion was the winning pitcher in the final pool play game on Saturday in which Salem beat New Athens 10-2. He went all 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs and 4 hits. He allowed both runs in the first inning before settling in and giving up 1 hit the rest of the game after that. At the plate, Jaret Gibson drove in a pair of runs with RBI from Wyatt McCarty, Gullion, Barnes, Grawe, Rostance with runs from Landon Maxey who also had an RBI along with Riley Tate, Max Vincent and Avery Gullion.
Salem won their first game Saturday 10-1 over Trenton behind a complete game win from Landon Maxey. He struck out 3 and allowed 5 hits over 4 innings allowing just 1 earned run and walked just 1. At the plate, Barnes hit 2 doubles and drove in 2, Caleb Purintun added 2 RBI with runs driven in by Vincent, McCarty and Payton Gullion. Grawe, Gibson, Zane Dodson and Tate all scored.
