Governor redirects 100,000 unused doses of vaccine

The State is redirecting nearly 100,000 unused doses of the vaccine away from a federal pharmacy program.

Governor JB Pritzker says the doses are leftover from the allotment set aside for the program, which partnered with Walgreens and CVS to get long term care residents vaccinated.

“As it turns out they counted every bed and not every person.  As you know there are facilities that are not full.  In addition, they assumed that every person that would be offered, including staff, would take the vaccine.  That also has not been the case.”

The Governor says the Feds have wrapped up vaccination efforts at all skilled nursing facilities in Illinois and long-term care centers should be done by the 15th.  The extra doses will be used to vaccinate those eligible under Phase 1-B of the State’s rollout plan.
