Manuel “Pete” Harris, III, 70, of Centralia, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Per Pete’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Due to health concerns, masks and a limited amount of visitors entering the funeral home will be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Harris family. Pete is survived by his daughter: Laurene Bivins-Fortney and husband Kevin of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Cassaundra Bright, Orlandra Bright, and Tanikah Bright all of Grand Prairie, TX; one great granddaughter: Ja’Kiya Shelton; one brother: Willie Harris and wife Mary of Centralia; four sisters: Rhoda Williams and husband Arthur of Sterling Heights, MI, Cheryl Harris of Centralia, Laura Harris of Paducah, KY, and Lena Allwood of Leavenworth, KS; and several nieces and nephews.
Pete was born June 11, 1950 in Mound Bayou, MS, the son of Manuel Harris, II and Irene (Jones) Harris. Pete was preceded in death by his parents: Manuel Harris II and Irene Harris; two brothers: Fred Harris and Jimmie Harris; and one sister: Barbara Davis.
