Paul W. Hester, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away January 14, 2021 at his residence. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked for many years as a driver for Beck Bus Transportation and as a mark up supervisor for the Post Dispatch Newspaper. Paul was of the Christian faith. He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed photography and camping in the Great Smoky Mountains. Most of all, Paul loved the time he shared with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew and admired him.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. A Graveside Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Paul’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people under the tent at a time. Paul married Mary Louise (Partridge) Hester on December 27, 1952 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Paul is survived by his children, John Hester of Mount Vernon, David Hester and wife, Laurie of Avon, Connecticut, and Karen Gaede of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Melanie Donoho and husband, Chris, Michelle Hoffman and husband, Eric, and Megan Teuber and husband, Matthew, all of Mount Vernon, and Lucas Hester of Avon, Connecticut; great-grandchildren, Brendon Donoho, Bailey Donoho, Savannah Teuber, Meadow Teuber, Jacob Teuber, Wesley Hoffman, and Colton Hoffman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born June 20, 1930 in Mount Vernon to the late Eddie and Ollie (Oathout) Hester. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Seymore and husband, Bill; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Ellis and husband, John.
