James C. Whitfield, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at December 29, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly thirty-two years, James is survived by seven children, Jacqueline Davis of Arizona, Jowanna Whitfield of Cairo, Illinois, James (Veronica) Whitfield, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, Jami Lynn Whitfield of Detroit, Michigan, Jerome S. Glasper of Arizona, Cieara Jean (Jon) Ibarra of Missouri, and Justin J. Whitfield of Georgia; twelve grandchildren; nine siblings, Herman Whitfield of Cairo, Illinois, Billy Whitfield of Cairo, Illinois, Wallace Whitfield of Cairo, Illinois, Cassandra Chairs of Paducah, Kentucky, Carolyn Whitfield Jackson of Paducah, Kentucky, Marquitta Whitfield-Rush of Paducah, Kentucky, Betty Whitfield of Chapple, Kentucky, Wilma Barner of Paducah, Kentucky, and Patricia Baldwin of Lenexa, Kansas; many, many nieces and nephews; and three godchildren, Al’Ruis Benson, Rjhyae Foulks, and TJ Rawls.
He was born April 22, 1944 in Ridgley, Tennessee to the late Rice Whitfield and Geneva (Evans)Whitfield. James married Angela (Glasper) Whitfield on March 24, 1989 in and she survives in Mount Vernon In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Russel DeBerry and sister, Nolan Alexander.
