IHSA Puts Hoops On Hold Till January

By News Dec 15, 2020 | 8:31 AM

The IHSA met on Monday to discuss winter sports.  The Board continued to hold off on basketball and plans to meet with representatives from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Governor’s office prior to January to develop a timeline for the resumption of winter sports.  Following that meeting, the Board will call a special meeting to finalize their plans for scheduling the winter, spring and summer sports seasons.

IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson said in a press release that they hope to be able to conduct basketball during the winter season, but if they can’t, basketball will be provided the same contact day opportunity as they determine where the basketball seasons fit best in the remainder of the school year.  Which leads the question, how will multi-sport athletes be able to split their time if basketball conflicts with football, baseball, softball, volleyball or any of the other sports already scheduled throughout the rest of the year as well as the availability of enough officials for each event.
