2020 12/10 – Wilma Jane Hayes

Wilma Jane Hayes, 83, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:00 pm December 4, 2020, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Mrs. Hayes was a volunteer AARP Tax Service at Central Christian Church. She was of the Christian faith, enjoyed reading, and was a member of the Quilting Club in Marion, Illinois. She enjoyed Ham Radios and her call sign was KA9JJX. Wilma loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her pets. She will be greatly missed.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2020, at 10:00 am at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Pastor David Shores officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Wilma’s honor to the Hayes Family in care of Staci Johnson.  Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people in our building at a time. She was born September 15, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late William Delbert and Rosie May (Gates) Rapp. Wilma married Edward G. “Ed”  Hayes on January 10, 1964, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with fifty-two years of marriage before Ed preceded her in death on July 14, 2016.

Wilma is survived by her son, Harold “Butch” McIntyre of Mount Vernon, Illinois; stepsons, Steve Hayes of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jeff  Hayes of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Leslie Hayes of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Michael Hayes, Noah Hayes, Chanelle Hayes and significant other, Chris Gehrig, Charles Hayes, Staci Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kami Hayes, Madi Hayes, Payten Gehrig, and Paxtyn Gehrig; sister, Violet Coil of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her son, Doug  Hayes; daughter, Cindy White; brothers, Delbert Rapp, James Lewis; and great-grandson, Lucas Gehrig.
