The daily number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been over 6,000 for six days in a row. Governor JB Pritzker says the pandemic doesn’t seem to be letting up.
“The virus is spreading and every region of the state is suffering from its insidious invisible contagion. For perspective, this is one of the worst single week increases in regional positivity across the state since the spring,” said Pritzker.
As of Wednesday, the entire state will be under stricter safety guidelines such as no indoor dining or bar service due to rising positivity rates. Another 6,222 new cases and 20 deaths were reported on Monday.
The statewide positivity rate for the past week is 8.1-percent. The positivity rate for the Southern Illinois Region increased to 10-percent. The Marion County Rate increased to 8.8-percent. The Metro-East Region increased eight-tenths of a percent to 9.7-percent. The East Central Illinois Region has seen an increase to 9.5-percent.
