Marion County reports two new COVID-19 deaths; other deaths reported in Clay, Fayette, and Wayne Counties

The Marion County Health Department is reporting two new COVID-19 related deaths on Thursday.   Administrator Melissa Mallow reported the victims were a male in his 50s and a male in his 70s.   Both had been hospitalized.  There have now been 12 COVID-19 related deaths in Marion County since the pandemic began.

The Illinois Department of  Public Health has also reported three new deaths in Clay County, a male in his 70s and two females in their 80s.  Clay County has had nine deaths from COVID-19 related causes.  Fayette County is reporting the death of a man in his 80s who was living in a congregate-care facility.  There was also an additional death in Wayne County of a male in his 70s.  The death is the eleventh in the county.

Meanwhile, the Marion County Health Department on Thursday reported 27 new positive COVID-19 cases.  14 are residents from one long term care facility.   Mallow is not releasing the name until the facility self-identifies itself.  27 of the new cases are considered community spread and six are from household or close contacts.

The new cases range from a male and female in their 20s to a male and female in their 90s.  All are on isolation.  There are now 165 active cases in Marion County.  12 of those are in the hospital.  None are currently on ventilators.  There have now been 620 who have recovered, including 11 who were released on Thursday.

Clinton County had 27 new positive cases on Thursday.  There are now 154 on home isolation and 12 others who are hospitalized.  1,298 have been released.

Jefferson County is reporting 25 new cases, including three cases in a long term care facility.  Cases ranged from seven positives in those in their 20s a male in his 70s.  106 cases remain active and in isolation.  711 have been released from isolation.

Fayette County is reporting 22 new confirmed positive cases.  13 of those new positives are related to a congregate facility outbreak.   There are now 134 active confirmed cases.  The department is also reporting its own office is on outbreak status.  They are taking all necessary precautions to protect staff and clients and are switching all WIC appointments to phone appointments for the rest of the month.

The Clay County Health Department is reporting five new cases including two staff members of Flora High School.  The investigation did not reveal the disease spread inside the school district.  All close contacts were identified and placed into quarantine.

Wayne County is reporting ten new positive cases ranging from a female teen to two females in their 80s.  There are now 91 active cases in isolation and five who are currently hospitalized.
