Centralia City Council extends outdoor dining option

The Centralia City Council has approved an extension of outdoor seating options for restaurants and bars through the end of the year.

City Manager Lowell Crow made the recommendation.

“We are going to be getting into cold weather but this will extend our outdoor dining through December 31st as we continue on with COVID restrictions.  It currently is scheduled to expire at the end of this month.”

The council approved an $8,000 bid from Foster Actuarial to complete an actuarial study of the city’s police and fire pension fund and on the value of city assets. Not having those studies caused the city to receive a qualified audit for the past fiscal year.

There were three bids for the property at 404 North Poplar where the city earlier tore down a dilapidated motel building. The highest bidder was United Medical Response at $21,104. The bids will now be reviewed with an award possible at the next meeting.

Crow reported a study was now underway of any obstructions that may need to be cleared for the Centralia Municipal Airport.

The first check for federal CARES Act reimbursement for $7,000 is expected shortly. It will pay for the iPads for the city councilmen and the Zoom meeting platform. The system remained problematic at Monday night’s meeting with several technical issues that slowed the meeting and made it difficult to hear what was being said.
