Marion County Health Department reporting another COVID-19 death

The Marion County Health Department is reporting another COVID-19 death on Monday.  The male in his 80s had been hospitalized as was the woman in her 80s who was reported to have died on Saturday.

Administrator Melissa Mallow says both had lived at home before becoming ill.  They are the 7th and 8th deaths related to COVID-19 in Marion County.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is also reporting three new deaths in Clay County on Tuesday.  The deaths of the female in her 70s and males in their 70s and 80s bring the total number of deaths in Clay County to six.

Another death was reported in Fayette County bringing their total since Friday to five.   All but one involved residents in congregate care facilities.  There have now been 15 deaths in the county.   The Fayette County Health Department is reporting active outbreaks of COVID-19 in four congregate care facilities.  54 total new cases have been confirmed since Friday ranging in age from under 20 to their 90s.  There are now 117 active cases.

Illinois has now surpassed the 9,000 mark in number of COVID-19 related deaths.   The 29 deaths reported statewide also included a male in his 70s in Bond County and two deaths in St. Clair County.  There were 2,851 new confirmed cases of the disease statewide.

Marion County is reporting 46 new positive cases during the past four days.  23 are listed as community spread and 23 as a result of household contacts.  One of the positive cases was a grade school student where contact tracing is still being done.   It was the first positive case in the school.   Others range in age from six in their 20s to a male in his 90s.   Are all on isolation. There are now 152 active cases, including 13 in the hospital one of which is on a ventilator.  A total of 44 were released from isolation bringing the number of total recovered to 602.

The Clinton County Health Department reported 49 new cases since last Friday.  150 are on home isolation and six are hospitalized.

The Washington County Health Department is reporting 13 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Friday.   They range in age from a female between 16 and 19 and three in their 80s.  28 remain in isolation after testing positive and three are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting nine new cases on Tuesday ranging in age from a female in her 20s to two females in their 70s.  149 remain in isolation.

Wayne County reported five new cases on Tuesday ranging in age from their 60s to 90s.  There are currently 70 who are isolating at home and seven who are hospitalized.

The new statewide positive rate has increased to 4.5-percent for the period October 6th through the 12th.   The positivity rate in the Southern Illinois Region that includes Marion, Jefferson and Wayne Counties has reached eight-percent with a half-percent increase in the past day.   The positivity rate in the Metro-East Region that includes Washington, Clinton, and Bond Counties increased a tenth of a percent since Monday to 6.5-percent.  There was also a half-percent increase in positivity in the East Central Illinois Region without Champaign County.  It went from 7.2 to 7.7-percent.
