The Illinois Department of Public Health on Sunday announced the third COVID-19 related death of the weekend in Fayette County. A female in her 90s passed away, bringing the number of deaths in Fayette County to 13.
Statewide, there were 2,727 new confirmed cases and nine additional deaths. The other deaths were in northern and central Illinois.
The statewide positivity rate for the past seven days continues to go up. It is now at 4.2-percent for October 4th through the 10th. Another 66,000 tests were completed before the daily update on Sunday afternoon.
The positivity rate in the Southern Illinois Region increased for the eighth day in a row and is now at 7.3-percent for the seven day period ending October 8th. The Metro East Region increased a tenth of a percent to 6.3-percent. The East Central Region excluding Champaign County is at 7.1-percent.
