Kenzi Anderson Will Represent Salem Girls Golf At Sectionals

The Salem Lady Wildcats golf team traveled to Alton on Wednesday to compete in regional competition at the Arnold Palmer designed Spencer T. Olin Golf Course. The regional included 15 teams and 74 total players from the following schools: Alton Marquette, Bethalto Civic Memorial, Breese Central, Breese Mater Dei, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Centralia High School, Glen Carbon Father McGivney, Greenville, Highland, Jerseyville Jersey High, Odin (Coop), Roxana, Salem, Staunton, and Vandalia.

Because of the changes brought about by COVID-19 this year, only the top 2 teams will advance to the sectional competition. In addition, the top 4 individuals who are not members of the 2 top teams will also advance.

The Lady Wildcats team placed 3rd overall and missed advancing as a team to the sectional by only 2 strokes.

Salem’s Kenzie Anderson placed 3rd overall in the field of 74 individuals with an 84 (47/37) and will be the only Salem player to advance to sectional competition.

Other Salem Wildcat players were: Lauren Ice with a 97, Alyssa Paul with a 101, Laine Stinnett and Taylor Ice both with 111, and Jairva Stroud with a 122.

The 2 teams advancing to the sectional were Alton Marquette and Bethalto Civic Memorial.

The  4 individuals advancing to the sectional were: Kenzie Anderson (Salem) with an 84, Julia Stobie (Glen Carbon Father McGivney) with a 92, Jianna Palm (Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran) also with a 92 and Bria Tuttle (Jerseyville Jersey High) with a 94.

The overall low medalist for the regional was Grace Pier (Alton Marquette) who took first place with a 68.

The sectional competition will take place at the Salem Country Club on Monday, October 12th.

Also feeding into the Salem Sectional is the Gibault Regional with Columbia and Waterloo moving on.  Okawville finished 1 shot from advancing and 3rd.  Lady Rocket’s Chloe Kraus moved on as an individual as she was low medalist shooting a 75.    Moving on from Carbondale was Massac County and Zeigler Royalton with Carbondale a distant 3rd.  Carbondale’s Annie Shin moves on as an individual.  At Mt Carmel the hosts won the event and move on along with St Anthony.  Altamont was 7th, Woodlawn 9th and Olney 12th.

Also in 2a feeding into the Centennial Sectional at Decatur it was Quincy and Springfield advancing as a team.    At Marion it was O’Fallon and Edwardsville moving on as a team.  Marion was 3rd 3 shots back of 2nd place with Mt Vernon 11th.  Advancing from Minooka was Lincoln-Way Central and Lockport Township and moving on from Pekin was Dunlap and Washington.
