Four area deaths blamed on effects of COVID-19

Health Departments announced four deaths on Tuesday from those suffering from COVID-19.

Two of the deaths were in Marion County.   Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says she is saddened to announce the deaths of two males both in their 70s that were positive for COVID-19.   She reports both men had been hospitalized and on ventilators.   Marion County has now had five deaths related to COVID-19.

The Clinton County death was to a female in her 70s who had been hospitalized as a result of her battle with COVID-19.    The death was the 22nd in Clinton County.

The Jefferson County death was a female in her 70s.   The death was the 33rd in the county.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 32 additional deaths along with 1,617 confirmed new cases.

Marion County had 17 new cases reported on Tuesday.   Six are from community spread and 11 are household/close contacts to confirmed cases.  No new cases are in the schools.   The range in age is from one boy under one year, one boy under four years, a female in her teens up to a female in her 80s.

There are now 140 active cases, including 17 in the hospital.   Two are now reported on ventilators with one removed from the ventilator today due to improvement in his condition.

Clinton County reported 14 new cases on Tuesday.  That brings the total in isolation to 186 with eight hospitalized.  The health department report there are currently three outbreaks, all in schools.

Jefferson County reported six new positive cases ranging in age from 30s to a female in her 80s who is hospitalized.  There are currently 118 active cases.

Fayette County had six new cases and nine listed as probables.  The cases range in age from teens to 80s.  There is one new outbreak at a business.  The health department reports 78 active cases and 11 probables.

Wayne County Health Department is reporting seven new cases ranging in age from 40s to 90s.  53 are currently isolating at home and eight are hospitalized.

The statewide positive rate for the past seven days statewide is 3.4-percent.  Marion County’s seven-day rolling average has jumped to 7.1-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region saw its positivity rate increase to 6.3-percent.   The Metro East Positivity Rate has fallen to 6.9-percent.   The East Central Illinois excluding Champaign County is at 7.2-percent.
