Illinois Department of Public Health reporting new COVID-19 deaths on Monday in Fayette and Wayne Counties

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting new COVID-19 deaths in both Fayette and Wayne Counties on Monday.   The deaths are among 14 being confirmed statewide as well as 1,853 new positive cases.

The Fayette County death is a male in his 90s. It is the ninth death in the county and is linked to the recent outbreak in the congregate living facility.    The Wayne County death is a man in his 50s.   Wayne County has had eight COVID-19 deaths.

Fayette County is also reporting 20 new confirmed cases and one new probable cases ages 20 to 70s.  One of the new cases is linked to the congregate living facility outbreak and two are linked to a neighboring county congregate outbreak.  Fayette County now has 76 active cases.

Wayne County is reporting seven new additional cases on Sunday ranging from three females in their 30s to a male in his 70s.  Nine are currently hospitalized and 54 are isolating at home.

Other counties have not yet reported numbers for the weekend or Monday.

The state’s positivity rate has increased to 3.4-percent for the past week.

A reminder that the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Marion County Health Department is sponsoring a community drive-through testing site at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Salem from nine to five both Monday and Tuesday.

The testing is open to the public.  Anyone with or without symptoms can be tested.  A simple nasal swab will be used.  There is no cost for the testing.  Please bring your insurance card, but you can still be tested if you do not have insurance.  No appointment is needed.  You must have a valid phone number because you will be called with the results within four to seven days.
