Sunday COVID-19: Zip Code case break out; 1,453 new confirmed cases statewide

The number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow throughout the region.

The latest numbers available from the Illinois Department of Public Health show there have been 390 positive cases in the Centralia zip code and 148 in the Salem zip code.   In the smaller communities, the Sandoval zip code has the most cases at 68.  Patoka has 43, Odin 40, Kinmundy 31, Iuka 23, Kell and Walnut Hill 17 apiece, and Alma 15.

Mt. Vernon has the highest positive number in the region with 466.  Carlyle has 265 cases, Fairfield 188, Vandalia 169, Nashville 105, and Flora 89.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,453 new cases on Sunday with 17 additional confirmed deaths.  Two of the deaths were in Monroe County and one in Williamson County.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of the total tests from September 27th to October 3rd is down to 3.3-percent.  The Metro East Region is at 7.7-percent positivity.   The Southern Illinois Region is at up two-tenths of a percent to 5.8-percent.
