8th COVID-19 death in Fayette County; Marion County has 10 positive cases

Fayette County is reporting the eighth death from COVID-19 on Friday.   The death of a male in his 90s is tied to an outbreak at a congregate living facility.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 47 additional deaths on Friday.  That’s the highest number in three months.  Fifteen more of the deaths were in Southern Illinois including three in St. Clair County, two in Williamson, Richland, Monroe, and Lawrence County and one apiece in Bond, Jersey, Madison, Randolph, and White County.

The Marion County Health Department has been notified of 10 additional Marion County residents who tested positive for Coronavirus Disease.  Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says six of the cases are believed to be from community spread and four are from household/close contacts.   All ten of the new cases are reported as doing well and are on isolation.  Marion County now has 107 active cases, including twelve who are hospitalized.   Four of the twelve are on ventilators.   498 are now listed as recovered.

The age of those testing positive include a male and female teen.  Only one goes to school and the health department is still doing contact tracing at the school.   Others testing positive include males in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and females in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting twenty new positive cases.  There are now 169 on home isolation and ten who are hospitalized.  1,078 others have recovered.

Clay County late Thursday night reported 20 positive cases of COVID-19, the largest number of cases in a single day since the virus began.  Eight of the cases are tied to an outbreak in a long-term care facility.  Five of the other cases are considered community spread.  The seven others had known exposure.   All are currently recovering at home or in the long-term care facility in isolation.

The Washington County Health Department has 11 new confirmed cases in the past two days ranging in age from two males between five and nine years old to a male and female in their 70s.  There are currently 20 active cases with none of the active cases being hospitalized.

Fayette County is reporting six new confirmed cases on Friday ranging in age from 30s to 80s.  There are 85 active cases.

Wayne County is reporting five new positive cases ranging in age from a male teen to a male in his 70s.  There are now 50 on isolation and ten who are currently hospitalized.

The state’s positivity rate for the past seven days dropped a tenth of a percent to 3.4-percent.   The Metro East Region has a positivity rate of 7.5-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region has a positivity rate of  5.9-percent.
