COVID 19 claims another life in Fayette County, Marion County reports 21 new cases

There has been another COVID-19 death in Fayette County.  A female in her 70s has passed away.   She is one of 25 additional deaths reported on Thursday.  Other Southern Illinois deaths were in Bond, Crawford, Franklin, Jersey, Madison, St. Clair, and Williamson Counties.   There were 2,166 new confirmed cases statewide on Thursday.

The Marion County Health Department has been notified of 21 new positive cases of COVID-19.    Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says 18 of the cases are believed to be from community spread with the three others from household or close contacts.   All are on isolation.   The new Marion County cases range from a male in his 20s to two males in their 80s.  With the new cases, there are now 105 active cases in Marion County, including 11 in the hospital of which four are on ventilators.  Another 490 have recovered.

Clinton County is reporting 25 new positives on Thursday.  171 are currently on home isolation and seven are hospitalized.  Another 1,059 have been released.

Jefferson County reported 15 new cases ranging in age from their 20s to their 80s.  There are currently 82 active cases.

Fayette County is also reporting 15 new cases ranging in age from under ten to their 70s.  Six of the new cases are in a congregate-care facility that has had an outbreak of COVID-19.   There are a total of 91 active cases.

Wayne County has nine new cases ranging in age from two teens to a man in his 80s.  There are now 47 active cases and nine who are hospitalized.

The new seven-day state positivity rate is 3.5-percent, with an additional 65,615 test results completed in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday’s report.   The Metro East positivity rate has increased a tenth of a percent to 7.5-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region remains at six percent.  The East Central Illinois Region is at just 2.2-percent minus the high number of positive cases at the University of Illinois and Champaign County.
