The Salem Fire Protection District reports a boat was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

Firemen report the boat was parked under a carport at 221 South Marshall when it caught fire.  The boat owned by Nick Wright of Centralia was destroyed and the carport received heavy damage.

The fire call came in at 3:30 on Saturday morning.   Firemen were on the scene for about 45 minutes.  Odin Firemen stood by at the Salem station in the event of another fire.

Salem Firemen were called out around 7:30 Saturday morning to a report of a smoke odor in Merz Vault Company on Route 37 South.   While firemen could also smell the ‘hot odor’ the source of the odor was never found.  Firemen noted several heaters were running at the time and may have been responsible.
