Wheat harvest is underway in Illinois.
Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener says nearly 5.5 days were suitable for fieldwork this past week, giving farmers time to work on the winter wheat crop
“Wheat harvest has begun in Illinois. 3% of acres have been harvested compared to 9% for the five year average. The condition of the crop was rated 8% very poor to poor, 22% fair and 70% good to excellent.”
Corn planting is finished and 96% of the crop has emerged. 94% of soybeans have been planted and 88% have emerged. The first cutting of alfalfa is now 71% complete and average statewide topsoil moisture came in at 1% very short, 11% short, 85% adequate and 3% surplus.
