The Centralia Community Center Youth Center and WJBD Radio Adopt a Family program looks to help more this Christmas season.
The Executive Director of the Centralia Community Center Josh Favors told the monthly luncheon of the Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce that another large program that helped kids at Christmas time will not be operating this year.
“We’re expecting twice as many families to apply, so we’re trying to get all our ducks in a row,” Favors said. “Getting applications prepared for our location and for the Salem location, getting information out on social media, and obviously WJBD and some other publications, so that everybody knows that we’re still doing our program and it’s going strong. We’re just looking forward to helping as many people as we can.”
Favors says those who want to adopt to brighten the lives of the less fortunate are being sought.
“Contributions of toys, financial contributions, or people who are willing to adopt, we can get that information early, and that way we’ll have information ready for those adopters as early as possible, and we can get those families helped as quickly as possible.”
If you’re interested in helping, you can get involved by contacting Favors at the Centralia Community Youth Center at (618) 532-6530. Those adopting are asked to plan to have the gifts ready to deliver to the youth center or WJBD radio by Friday, December 4th. For those giving cash, shoppers will purchase the gifts. New toys can also be given to help fill the wishes of the young people.
Meanwhile, the two-week sign up to participate in the program will begin on Monday, November 2nd. Signup will be at the Centralia Community Youth Center and at the Bryan Bennett Library in Salem.
450 children were served by the program last year.
