Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says both occupants of an SUV that ran into the rear of a semi on southbound I-57 at the 122 miles marker six miles north of Salem refused medical treatment.

Initial information indicates the driver of the car, 49-year-old Jason Longoria of Chicago, became hooked to the semi after the collision.   The semi driver, 34-year-old Ramundo Ruiz, drug the SUV for about a mile as he slowly came to a stop off the shoulder of the Interstate.

Kinmundy-Alma Ambulance personnel checked Longoria and a passenger in the SUV, 34-year-old Matthew Hagenseiker of Effingham, but both declined medical treatment.

Kinmundy-Alma Firemen then assisted in traffic control around the crash until the SUV was removed by a wrecker.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies initially responded to the scene, but State Police handled the crash.   State Police reports are not yet available.

The crash occurred at 3:39 Saturday afternoon.
