Salem Police arrested a 25-year-old Salem man for alleged possession of under five grams of methamphetamine and possession of stolen checks.
Matthew Harris of South Hamilton was initially arrested on the possession of stolen checks charge after a family member reported Harris had taken two checks that were later cashed for a total of $40. Police reviewed video from the business where the checks were allegedly cashed and confirmed Harris was the person who completed the transaction.
When confronted where he was staying, police allegedly found him in possession of a drug pipe. Harris was initially given a notice to appear on the stolen check charge and possession of drug paraphernalia. But Police later discovered a rock of what field-tested as methamphetamine in the pipe leading to his arrest for possession of methamphetamine.
Harris was relocated where he was staying and taken to the Marion County Jail on the drug and check charges.
